Saturn is known for its beautiful rings, made of ice and rock chunks.
They are arranged in groups of tiny ringlets that surround the planet.
While other planets have rings, Saturn’s are the most attractive!
Structure and Surface
Like Jupiter, Saturn is a gas giant made mostly of hydrogen and helium.
It has a thick atmosphere, and spaces separate its main rings.
Time on Saturn
A day on Saturn is really short, only 10.7 hours!
However, a year on Saturn is much longer than a year on Earth – it takes 29 Earth years for Saturn to complete one orbit around the Sun.
Saturn's Neighbors
Saturn has 63 moons, and scientists are still learning about 20 more that need confirmation.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun, which makes Jupiter and Uranus its neighbors.
Quick History
Saturn has been known since ancient times because it can be seen without fancy telescopes.
In modern times, four spacecraft have visited Saturn: Pioneer 11, Cassini, and Voyager 1 and 2.
